This Deer Pair Sculpture is meticulously sculpted by hand and cast in solid brass and mounted on a marble base. It is finished with “Lost Wax” process. The origins of the “Lost Wax casting process, also known as investment casting, are shrouded in antiquity. It has been used for thousands of years to create metal objects that could not be produced in any other way (such as fine jewelry) because of their complexity. Due to its high cost, low yield, complexity and time-consuming nature, the “Lost Wax” is a fading art form.
Each lost wax piece begins life as a finely hand-carved wax sculpture. After the model is touched up, vents and gates to channel liquid metal are added. The model it then surrounded by a ceramic slurry material that will withstand extreme temperatures. Following days of successive layers of slurry application, baking, and cooling, molten metal is carefully poured into the mold melting the wax in the process (hence the “Lost Wax” designation). The metal is allowed to cool, and then the mold is broken away to reveal the metal sculpture which faithfully reproduces every detail of the original wax-detail that other casting methods are simply incapable of recreating. The sprues and runners are then painstakingly removed and imperfections attended to. Every piece is inspected, and only those that pass stringent quality standards are released for patination.
Your choice from this fine art collection will last for many generations.
